- CDC: Youths with NAS more likely to have adverse educational development
Youths with neonatal abstinence syndrome had 44% increased odds of being referred for potential developmental delay evaluations and 36% increased odds of meeting state criteria for educational disability, compared with those without NAS, CDC researchers reported at the agency’s Epidemic Intelligence Service annual meeting. The findings, based on data involving more than 7,200 children in Tennessee born from 2008 to 2011, also showed 37% higher odds of receiving assistance for educational and developmental difficulties among those with NAS.
